Located in the north of Bhutan, Bumthang district is commonly referred to as “the spiritual heartland of Bhutan”. The Jakar Valley or Bumthang has an individuality that charms visitors and tourists. The area of Bumthang comprises of four picturesque mountain valleys like Ura, Chumey, Tang and Choekar.

The deeply spiritual region of Bumthang boasts of Bhutan’s oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries such as Jakar Dzong and Thangbi Goemba. Constructed back in 1549 by a Tibetan, the Jakar Dzong is the dominant fixture, which played an important role in defense of the area as well as earned fame by being the seat for first ever king of Bhutan. Situated in the middle of a wide fertile plateau, Thangbi Goemba is a monastery, which was built back in 170 and includes a temple of terrifying deities as well as statues of Buddha’s, past, present and future.

Visitors coming to Bumthang Valley are more attracted to walking activity, which helps in exploring the varying terrain and scenery. Trekking or hiking is also one of the highly recommended and most loved activities. This will help in exploring forest, meadows, villages and sacred sites.
